Fresh butt nuggets

I was housesitting for a mate’s chooks and cat over the Christmas break. She lives in Melbourne, so I packed up the car with a Fe and Bella (rabbit) and drove South for nearly seven hours in a car with broken air-conditioning.

After spending a few days wandering the streets with Fe looking for EB and being unsuccessful, I decided that the best option for Christmas dinner would be fresh butt nuggets on toast with a topping of sauce and some ham.

So I got myself a packet. Last time I posted about a home effort, I used another brand. I haven’t had Gravox finishing sauce before and I’m always up for a new discovery. You know, whatever the supermarket keeps on the shelf.

The trouble with Summer weather it can interfere with my blood pressure medication. The heat opens the veins and helps the blood flow more freely, so the high meds I take becomes somewhat problematic and can cause light-headedness, fainting spells, and blurry sight. When in Canberra the heat tends to steadily rise so I’m able to reduce the dosage to control the likelihood of ending up in a puddle on the floor.

The sudden change from rain to 32 degrees left me reeling. Even when lying in bed on Christmas morning.

I only took a half dose when I made my way to the bathroom.

However, feeling less than great, the bottle of Verve was to stay in the fridge. I had a Fever-Tree Elderflower Tonic with raspberries and dried orange slice instead.

I was happy with my dinner.

The sauce was tangy with lemon as the acid. I poured it over a slice of fresh sourdough, baby English spinach, asparagus spears, smoked ham, and eggs laid less than eight hours before.

Frankly, I think I did a pretty good job. If I do say so myself. I’d definitely go back!

My you all enjoy the weirdness of the week between Christmas and New Year!
